In Upper Primary, positive themes are commonly covered. Over the past few years, the continuous writing question on the PSLE has been of a positive theme. These themes often stump many pupils because they do not know how they can make their writing more interesting. As such, they end up with unexciting, mundane stories that do not stand out from the crowd. How can your child write effectively to ensure he or she has written an interesting story for a positive theme? This composition about courage was written by Charlotte Loh, one of our P5 students.
In this composition, Charlotte brings out the theme of courage by describing how the narrator overcomes a difficult situation.

LiteracyPlus teaches our upper primary level pupils how to weave conflicts into their positive-themed stories to make them interesting, yet relevant to the theme. With our emphasis on equipping our students with the right writing skills, we model how to create conflict in a story to bring out the positive theme before allowing our pupils to apply this technique.
