How can your child write an interesting story about “a surprise”? One technique our pupils learn at LiteracyPlus is to Show, rather than Tell. When pupils describe what their character experienced using “Showing” techniques (e.g. A chill ran down his spine), rather than tell the reader (e.g. He was scared), it makes their masterpiece much more captivating. This composition about “A Surprise” was written by Lim Zhi Rui, one of our P4 students.
In this composition, Zhi Rui uses a great deal of “Showing” techniques. She incorporates sensory descriptions and also describes the facial expressions and reactions of the characters to make her story interesting.
